The year so far…..

Busy again in 2019, with the usual mix of corporate, commercial and even some behind the scenes work. A few highlights were working on a feature – My First Summer in February, filming safety content for Zoos Victoria and seeing a recent short (Long Distance) being very successful on the festival circuit.

New addition to the kit

After a fair amount of debate, I’ve added the Zoom F8n to the (mainly) Sound Devices family. It was the weight and battery life that won me over, and this mini setup will be perfect for the corporate and run/gun shoots. While not in the SD league, for the size and cost it is a pretty impressive piece of kit.

2018 comes to a close

As 2018 winds up, reflecting on a very busy second half to the year. Wide range of projects and some new challenges, including more work behind the camera (not to say that sound is usually in front, but I have had a few cameos in a couple of features and an ad, just waiting for the nod from the academy). Have been re-organising the gear and bags in the break, with a couple of new additions coming from the US. Will post more on these as they arrive. All the best for 2019, and see you on a set soon!

Short Season

Busy with a number of shorts at the moment, with a lot of night shoots going on. Discussion on set about generator noise reminded me of this solution we used in the past. The blanket layers were about 6 deep and the generator sat on the other side in the open. Amazing how much it baffled the noise on set. Note the extinguisher and cone, safety first!

Back from the mothership….

Just in time for the last week of a feature shoot, my SRCs are back from Lectrosonics after the all important V2 upgrade. Not much to see except for that discrete V2 label, but all new boards inside. Thanks to the Lectro team in the US for such a quick turn around.

The joy of storage

Sometimes its the simple stuff that makes a big difference. Finally found a set of toolboxes/stackable crates which fit all the gear and make a great seat/table combo in the field. Been road testing this on Taboo, a VCA Masters shoot last weekend. Great crew and the boxes work great!

The True History of Billie the Kid – MIFF Screening

Great news that The True History of Billie the Kidhas been selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival. Congratulations to Director Leticia Cáceres for such a terrific short, and the team who bought this together. Was pleased to be on board as the sound recordist for this shoot. You can catch this short in the Accelerator 2 program. Link to the program here: http://miff.com.au/program/film/accelerator-2

Activity Update

Further work on podcasts and shorts over the last few months. Also signed up with Calling All Crew, if you are looking for a broad range of crew and creatives, can find them at www.callingallcrew.com

Congratulations to Thomas Robins for his work on “Kiwi” which will be screening on TVNZ across the ditch next Sunday. Another quality piece of work, hope it makes it to screens here in Aus soon!

Losing It – St Kilda Film Festival

“Losing It” is screening at the St Kilda Film Festival 2018 as part of the Australia Top 100 Shorts. Was the first short where I both recorded sound and did sound design. Has been great to see the success that this short has had, given it was also at MIFF last year. The director, Nikki Richardson also has another short in the same program, which was a finalist at Tropfest this year.
